Shedding Winter’s Heaviness: A Spring Awakening for Body & Soul
Winter leaves its mark—not just in the cold air or the quiet hush of snow, but deep in our bones, our minds, our hearts. As we step out of hibernation, we feel it: the weight of all we’ve been carrying. And truthfully, many of us have been carrying a lot.
There is so much happening—within us, around us, in the world at large. We’re all silently fighting battles behind closed doors, tending to our wounds, showing up for our responsibilities, navigating the unknown. And at the same time, we’re out there—warrioring forward, fighting for what we believe in, for the lives we want to create, for the stability we crave.
It’s a lot.
And if you’re feeling heavier these days—physically, emotionally, energetically—you’re not alone.
The Spiral of Our Healing
For much of my life, my relationship with my body and nourishment felt like a yo-yo—up and down, back and forth, bouncing between balance and burnout. But the deeper I’ve traveled into women’s health, the more I’ve come to see that we don’t move in waves.
We move in spirals.
We return to familiar places, patterns, and emotions—sometimes lighter, sometimes heavier, depending on the season we’re in. Our bodies, our prana, our Shakti are always in motion, just as nature is. Instead of judging where I am, I now see myself as part of this spiral, ever-shifting, responding, evolving.
Last year at this time, I was caught in a whirlwind of too much vata—air, space, movement. One year postpartum with my second baby, I found myself fixated on the number on the scale, floating ungrounded through my days. I had been in this place before—sometimes better, sometimes worse. That season, it was worse. I became too small for my frame, untethered, reactive, lost in the chase of control.
This winter was different. I rooted down. I let myself indulge. I surrendered to food in a way I never had before—without shame, without punishment. And it was exactly what I needed.
But now, as spring stirs beneath the surface, I feel it: the heaviness. The slowness. The excess kapha that has settled in not just my body, but my energy, my mind, my life.
The Weight of Winter & The Call to Lighten
Kapha isn’t the enemy. It is nourishment, stability, strength. It is the very thing that holds us together. But when it builds up too much, we feel stuck, sluggish, weighed down.
Spring is nature’s invitation to shake it off—to lighten, to cleanse, to wake back up.
Now is the time for movement, for breath, for clearing out what no longer serves. This is the season to pacify kapha, to release, to detox, to reset—not from a place of deprivation, but from a place of devotion. Of honoring the rhythm of life. Of remembering that we are not stuck. We are always in motion.
Spring is calling.
It’s time to move. To wake up the fire within. To shed what’s been weighing you down and step into the fullness of your next season.
